I am a general surgeon & for last 16 yrs I have been working as a full time General Surgeon in a Charitable Trust Hospital in Nagpur.I am a Senior Consultant & Medical Superintendent also for last 5 years.
Before coming to Nagpur, I was working for a charitable Hospital in Karnataka along with my Husband Dr. Sanjeev kelkar for 11years.We were serving in a difficult hilly area and beginning with a mobile hospital, developed a 60 bedded base hospital there.As it was a charitable hospital we had dearth of doctors as the salary was very low. I had no support of any Gynae/Obg & anaesthetist for almost 7 years. So I had to look after these areas also.We have also worked for tribals in Karnataka as per forest department’s need.
A story
I am a general surgeon of 28 yrs experience. The story gets repeated on many occasions.
In my O.P.D. few years back I came accross a patient ( 32 year old head-constable) having Tubercular axillary lymphadenopathy with multiple sinuses discharging pus . I suspected & wanted to know his HIV status. I councelled him & he tested positive for HIV.
